Ark Yuey Wong

Ark Yuey Wong was born in the vilage of Toysun Tien Sum Chien, near Canton, China on January 11, 1899 and passed away on January 11, 1987. A grandmaster of Five Animal Kung Fu and a catalist for Ed Parker's earlier version of Chinese Kenpo. He was also a traditional Chinese herbal doctor.

History

Ark Yuey Wong began his martial arts training when he was 7 under masters Lam Ark Fun. Later his teacher was Ho Ark Yeng, a Mawk Gar Kung Fu master. Around the age of 12, he also began to learn Chinese Herb Medicine. It was in Canton that he began to learn the internal aspects of Kung Fu under a monk there by the name of Pung.

Mr. Wong immigrated to the United States around 1920. He first opened a school in Stockton California, then later on moved to Los Angeles area in 1929. He taught exclusively to the Wong family the first two years then only to the Chinese. Besides the martial arts training, he also provided tradition Chinese medicine. It was 1965, that he accepted serious students from the public.

Ark Wong was in the original pilot movie of the television series "Kung Fu". He was also a front cover feature in the 1965 issue of Black Belt Magazine and has been the subject of several articles in Inside Kung Fu Magazine.
