Carlos Gracie

Carlos Gracie was the brother of Hélio Gracie. The brothers are credited with founding the Brazilian martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He learned Judo from Mitsuo Maeda, and in turn taught the art to his brothers Gastão Jr., Jorge, and Helio Gracie. In 1925, the brothers opened their first jiu-jitsu academy in Brazil, marking the beginning of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
His son Carlson Gracie received his black belt from his father, and was also a noted exponent of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
