The American Kenpo Karate Association was founded by John McSweeney in 1991. Before his passing, he made Tom Saviano president and John McSweeney took a chairman position.

Currently, Tom Saviano runs the AKKA. It excepts membership from instructors who teach some form of Kenpo or Kempo from the Chow or Mitose lineage.
