Sabre

From MartialTalk Online Martial Arts Encyclopedia Project

A sabre in the sport of fencing is a sporting version of the original battle-ready sabres.

The sabre is different from both Épée and Foil (the other two main modern fencing blades) as it is not purely a point weapon. While Sabreurs may strike with the weapon's point, the entire length of the blade is legal to strike with. Sabre uses right-of-way rules to determine who wins a point as foil does.

The target area for sabre consists of everything above the waist, except for the hands. When fencing with electric equipment, a manchette is used in conjunction with the lam%C3%A9 and electrically conductive mask to ensure that the entire target area forms a single circuit.
